CBD and THC Drinks: A Plain-Language Guide to What's on Our Shelves

Cannabis beverages are having a moment, and the questions we get about them are completely reasonable: What's the difference between CBD and THC? What's a Delta-9 versus a Delta-10? What will I actually feel, and when? How do I not overdo it?

We stocked these products because we think they belong in the conversation about drinking differently. We wrote this guide because the category deserves a straight answer, not a wellness brochure.

Here's what you need to know before you buy.

CBD: No High, Just Calm

CBD (cannabidiol) is a compound derived from hemp that does not produce a psychoactive effect. It won't get you high.

What researchers have found is that CBD interacts with the body's endocannabinoid system — a network involved in regulating things like mood and stress response. The FDA has approved one CBD-based medication (Epidiolex) for certain seizure conditions, which reflects how seriously the research community takes the compound. For the over-the-counter products we carry, we're careful not to make medical claims, because the research on CBD beverages specifically is still developing and the FDA hasn't authorized those kinds of statements for consumer products.

What we can say: many of our customers report that CBD drinks feel calming and that they're a satisfying swap for an evening glass of wine. That's experiential, not clinical. Your results will vary based on your body, your baseline, and the product.

CBD drinks on our shelves range from around 15mg to 25mg per serving. Tinctures run higher.

THC: Understanding What You're Getting Into

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the compound in cannabis responsible for the psychoactive effect — the "high." The THC drinks we carry are hemp-derived, which means they're federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill and compliant with Indiana state law (0.3% or less THC by dry weight in the plant; drinks are formulated to deliver a specific mg dose per serving).

We carry two types of hemp-derived THC: Delta-9 and Delta-10. Here's the practical difference.

Delta-9 THC is the traditional, well-researched form of THC — the one most people think of when they think of cannabis. At 5mg in a beverage, it produces a mild psychoactive effect for most people: some relaxation, some euphoria, a slight shift in perception. At 10mg, the effect is more pronounced. Our own experience testing these products confirmed that 10mg is genuinely a full dose, especially if you haven't used cannabis in a while.

Delta-10 THC is a different form of THC with a subtly different effect profile. It's generally described as more uplifting and clear-headed than Delta-9, and less likely to produce the heavy relaxation some people associate with traditional cannabis. We carry it at 5mg doses. It tends to be a better fit for people who want something light and social rather than deeply settling.

Neither of these is a medical treatment. Neither has been FDA-approved for any health condition. We're offering them as an alternative to alcohol for adults who want a different kind of drink — not as a wellness intervention.

Dosage: The Most Important Part

Cannabis beverages behave differently than alcohol. The effects don't hit immediately. With most THC drinks, onset is typically 30 to 60 minutes after drinking, and the effects can last 2 to 5 hours depending on your body and the dose.

That timing gap is where people get into trouble. You drink one, feel nothing after 20 minutes, and drink another. Then both hit at once. Don't do that.

A practical framework for where to start:

If you're new to THC: Start with 2.5mg to 5mg. Drink it, wait a full hour, and assess. You can always have more next time. You can't un-have what you've already consumed.

If you have some experience: 5mg is a comfortable social dose for most people. 10mg is a full evening for many.

If you're coming back after a long break: Treat yourself like a beginner. Tolerance resets faster than most people expect.

CBD-only drinks: Dosage matters less in terms of impairment (there is none), but starting in the 15-25mg range is typical for noticeable effect.

CBD + THC Together

Several products on our shelves combine CBD and THC in the same drink. There's research suggesting that CBD may moderate some of the anxiety-producing effects of THC in certain people — this interaction is sometimes called the "entourage effect" in cannabis research, though the science is still evolving and individual responses vary significantly.

In practical terms: a 5mg THC / 5mg CBD drink tends to feel smoother and less edgy than 5mg THC alone, for many people. A 5mg THC / 15mg CBD formulation leans heavily toward the calming side, with very subtle psychoactive effect.

If you're uncertain about THC but curious, a high-CBD / low-THC combination is a reasonable place to start.

A Few Things We Won't Say

We won't tell you these drinks will reduce your anxiety, improve your sleep, or support your wellness routine — not because we don't think there's anything to those claims, but because the FDA hasn't authorized consumer beverage products to make them, and we'd rather be honest with you than repeat language we can't stand behind.

What we will say: these are interesting, well-made products. Some of our customers love them. Some try them and decide they're not for them. That's completely fine. The bar for what earns a spot on our shelves is quality, transparency, and third-party testing — not a promise we can't keep.

One More Thing: Don't Mix With Alcohol

This one is straightforward. Combining THC with alcohol amplifies the effects of both in ways that are genuinely hard to predict. If you're drinking a THC beverage, skip the wine that evening. They're not designed to layer.

Where to Start

If you're in-store, ask us. We've tried most of what we carry, and we'll tell you honestly what we'd recommend based on what you're looking for.

If you're shopping online, the product pages include cannabinoid type, dose, and flavor profile. Start low, go slow, and give it time to work.
